Re: Vass Shoes

If there are resellers in the EU selling U and P last shoes Vass cannot to refuse to sell those same shoes to the German store. The EU Articles (81 and 82) make it illegal to treat areas of the EU differently and since Hungary is an EU member Vass is bound by those Articles. The EU Articles only address trade within the EU.

The penalty for breach of these particular Articles is up to 10% of the *worldwide* turnover in their last business year, so if you intend to commit this offence always do it in the early years :-)

Re: Vass Shoes

I have been lurking around this forum for a while. I am not a really big poster but I will not buy a pair of these Vass shoes now. They try to give this shoe an elegance it does not have in Europe where it is often associated more with orthotics and longevity and not good style.

Re: Vass Shoes

Yes, and Germany is an advanced country with a high standard of living, it isnt like german busunessmen cant afford $1400 shoes and American and Canadian ones  can. Additionally, Germans seem to me to be quite adept at pricing and savvy when it comes to commerce.

Unless there is some massive shoe tariff to the USA Im not aware of, what is the message here? that Germany believes it makes enough on cheap Hungarian labor but BG thinks they can reap an even greater windfall?

I have no interest in the shoes pesonally. I think that most of them are designed too unfortunately to create an elegant look for the western businessman. I do see how there would be a niche interest in the shoes in the same way Berluti and Moreschi have fans of some of their "bolder" offerings. Additionally, I do believe in choice. they should be available for people who are attracted to them but the price shold not be a part of what seems to be an artificial re-branding of the shoe as some luxury item when the Germans and Hungarians seem to consider them quite ordinary. I mean very well constructed, respectable and perhaps comfy shoes but not the result of Anglo-American aesthetic and pedigree.

Re: Vass Shoes

The Vass shoes are a bit too Rosa Klebb for my taste (sans blade).  The U last is nice enough, but not worth all the heavy breathing that it gets.  They promote these things like they were the second coming and the best shoes on earth.  I am sure that they are nicely made, but for me aesthitics come first.

Also, as far as I can tell, they are not the "best shoes in the world" or the "best ready to wear shoes made" or even the "best shoes at Bergdorf's".

Re: Vass Shoes

For the trouble accorded to get that "bargain" price and the relative inelegance of the styles, it would likely be wise to buy C&J Handgrade or what seems to be your favorite, Santoni.
