Re: Vass Shoes

Not a bad little selection of Vass.  The prob. though, is that if one has them shipped from the Continent to the US and they're the wrong sizez, what good does the cheaper price do you?

Still, I like this one, but they've only got it in black boxcalf.  They've also got a swell brogue that is a little less severely boxy than the traditional Budapester, which I still rather like anyway.

Re: Vass Shoes

I wonder if Ernest would really say "Vass is for peasant". I mean now that he is actually here.

Or maybe it's very American. In fact, it's hideously American!

Re: Vass Shoes

I think you're exactly right, Marc.  From AAAC alone, they could presumably up their sales figured in a non-trivial way.

And at the same time, your average forumite isn't your average Bergdorf customer so it's not as if they're really losing another 1k that they otherwise could have made.

Re: Vass Shoes

Basically, this Vass guy is saying to us, he has shut down our little plan to acquire his shoes at a reasonable price and if we want Vass, we need to speak to him and pay his prices.

Interesting when you consider what seems now like a lot of retroactive shilling that took place on other forums for so long to create a demand. All that, "Don't leave home without your Vass shoes" and "Hey Joe, did you get your Vass shoes yet?" with the response "I sho did and Im styling!" by a lot of the inner circle appears a lot like a scheme now.

It is amazing to my eyes that This Gabor guy would actually rub our noses in his move to end getting Vass more cheaply. He must hold us in something akin to contempt. This is nothing short of a PR nightmare for Vass shoes.

Maybe storming the castle was not far off from the truth with the exception that it isn't FNB's castle it's BG's. We should call them about the Vass price gouging and scheme to prevent free market forces and let BG know we are not amused.

Re: Vass Shoes

As I was about to place an order for at least two pairs of shoes from the German dealer, I am angry and even more disappointed by this latest development.  But just how is Mr Halmos rubbing it in in his brief post?  Also, market freedom hardly applies here: the government clearly is not involved in this decision, but rather the proprietor of the business.  He is free to charge whatever he wants for his shoes.  If you don't like the prices, don't buy them and perhaps the prices will come down.  Or if and when BG drops the account, the European retailers may once again be allowed by Mr Vass to export to the US.

Re: Vass Shoes

Speaking of Vass and the market:  how much do you think the cost of the shoe is to produce?  How much
do their trained craftsmen make?  I wonder what sort of markup or markups there are throughout the process?

If you guys really want to get the Vass from Germany, I know some remailers who will ship from some of the
islands off the east coast of the U.S.  There charges aren't unreasonable for letters and small packets and
I bet wouldn't be too bad for packages.  Hell, have them shipped to the Caymans and then to you.

Re: Vass Shoes

It should be taken note of that Bergdorf Goodman is now owned by Neiman Marcus, of whom I suspect there are people from that company reading the message boards, and being the proverbial moles.

Sometimes, it's better not to disclose the sources of our fabulous finds.
