I didn't even notice that it was Polanski on the right.

That book that Truffaut is reading --- The Compleat Liar. Have you read it?
Harris has got a book out? First Manton and now him - Hurry up Vaclav - We need something for us to read too.
Can't say I have, Horace. Your question has made me curious, however.
What I can tell it's a non-fiction book with "truthfulness and falsehood" as its subject material (thanks to one particularly helpful, if obvious, web-site). Even Amazon doesn't have a description. Will dig further and see what I find.

great thread idea
Belmondo, Delon, and Godard were def the holy trinity of early 60s french style.
Some great Alain Delon photos.

Cool. I had forgotten that in those far off pre internet days I would spend hours trawling through the books library at the BFI to find style inspirations from stills of long lost movies, and especially directors always seemed to wear great gear.
Truffaut in knitted polo was one of those influences and I bought a merino wool navy Jonelle brand from John Lewis in 1982 because of those images.
The other was the young Kubrick.
Excellent stuff.
